An SL3 is not necessarily a SWM SL3. If it's not, it does not require a PI.

"MUST be one of the Slimline antennas"... strange as I'm watching Direct HD in the rain on the smaller sat dish I posted above. You throw away the three sat lnbs that came on these dish's and bolt on a SL3 lnb for less than $50 plus a mounting. Easier to store and uses a smaller mount.

You can get surveyors tripods for $50-$60 at Homers. I found my Pentax on Craigslist for $30.

Amazon has them, bought everything i needed there for under $150 to receive HDTV. If you go in almost any CG in the USA there will be someone there with a Directv system and they can teach you how to set it up. I know I have helped several people over the last few years. I don't recommend a rooftop system, I have one and have given up using it, over 60% of the time there are trees in the way and I needed my tripod and set it up that way.

I agree with one of the posts above, locate a direct tv installer truck. those guys upgrade the old dishes for the new HD dish and they throw away the old dish. I know this for a fact. my son was an installer and he through a lot of them in the trash at the company store.

If you want an HD dish as your post implies it MUST be one of the Slimline antennas either roof mounted or on a tripod.
If you search for Slimline 3 antenna you will get lots of hits but you will need something to mount it on as well. Some folks use a tripod but it can also be bolts to a wooden platform you place on the ground. The tripod is easy but not cheap.

We also use Direct TV and have the Winegard RoadTrip Minimax 800S antenna roof mounted on our coach. It's an automatic stationary non-HD antenna and works great for us.

I just can't see paying more $$$ for the HD antenna, and DTV extra for an HD receiver as we're OK with our non-HD mode picture.

On their website, I couldn't find any "Dome" type roof mount antenna that received HD signals from Direct TV but most did for Dishnet...Go Figure..:h

You can usually buy a dish and whatever you need from a Directv installer. Look for a van parked. I had a Slimline I bought at a flea market for $30, bought a surveyors tripod on Ebay, j-bolted the mount to a 4" X 10" 1/4 thick piece of aluminum, drilled a 3/4 hole in in and bolted it to the tripod with an upside down 1/2 eye bolt with a wing nut. I replaced the bolts on the dish with wingnuts and take the dish off for easier storage. Works great.
