discovery water pump

has anyone replaced the water pump in a 2003 discovery by Fleetwood. looking at the location of the pump it appears impossible to get to without disassembling the compartment. San Bernardino camping world told me they would not touch the job for $1000.00 ANY ADVICE???

  • Thanks for all the input reply from JSP on 3/9 is spot on, my contact with Fleetwood was not helpful at all. only thing they would say was "take it to your dealer" and JS is right on the person who designed this was a complete idiot. Thanks for comments.
  • "On the 2005 Discovery / Excursion it's very easy to get to..."

it depends on the model, my 2005 model 35 Discovery has the water pump hidden in a cubby hole above & behind the rats nest of hoses & wires in the water service bay. You can't see it or touch it without completely dis-assembling the entire water bay. there was no access from above planned into the layout. I've cussed that engineer for 10 yrs. Fleetwood had no suggestions, they denied the WP was actually located there, since they assume its the same as the 39 model layout.
I had to cut a hole in the side wall from the adjoining storage compartment to get at it.
  • Have you "discovered" that that the floor of the closet can be removed to provide another access in addition to the floor alongside the bed? 4 screws. And, no I have not replaced my water pump yet.
  • I agree with Trackrig! Call Fleetwood and maybe they have some tips for getting to it for replacement. It seems odd it would be so difficult to replace as they do fail. But it's an RV and some things are installed and built around unfortunately!
  • On the 2005 Discovery / Excursion it's very easy to get to, too bad yours isn't the same. I'd call Fleetwood tomorrow at 800/322-8216, they're usually pretty good with helpful information.
