dish tailgater question

I have the VuCube 2000, which is just a fancier version of the Tailgater. I also have the ladder mount. When the ladder mount position offers me a clear shot at the satellites, I just connect the cable and leave it right there. When soemething is blocking the view of the satellite, I take the cube down and position it for a clear shot.

And yes, it stays on the ladder mount (padlocked) for storage and travel.

I thought about getting one of those. Worries me that they would be very easy to just pick up and walk away with. Even if you cable them a small pair of bolt cutters and its gone. I'll probably end up getting one someday anyway. There are still a lot cheaper than a roof mount and you can put them in a clear location out from under the trees... Just my 2 cents... :)

If you have the ladder mount adaptor, it would be way up by the top your roof. I really doubt anyone would attempt to steal it, as they would be attracting lots of attention to themselves.

The Tailgater has been a very hot topic in these forums since the day it was released. In all the discussions to date, I cannot recall where anyone ever had one "walk away".

We use the Tailgater for about one year now with a Tripod Purchased on Amazon for aprox. $ 40.00 less then Camping World. Ladder mount is OK but if there are Trees around you have the hassle of dismounting it. Never worried in a Campground of someone stealing the Tailgater, if you do, better look for a better Campground.

I just set ours on the ground. We prefer to park in areas with trees. With the dishformyrv app on the smart phone it is pretty easy to find an opening thru the trees. Then I just set the Tailgater there. I do sometimes attach a 20' dog tie out cable to it and a tree and lock it. But really I don't get overly concerned about it. And have never heard of anyone having one stolen. And the others I see in the parks rarely have any locks on them.

I also set Tailgater on the ground. When there are trees around, I sometimes have to go some distance from the RV in order to see the satellite through the trees. I have a 100 foot, a 50 foot and a 25 foot length of coax, and sometimes need to use all of it. I kept the original box with styrofoam packing, and put Tailgater back in its box for travel.

We have our Tailgater on a collapsible camping table, and bungee cord around Tailgater and a wooden planter box with a large concrete block inside (someday may put artificial plants in there).

Our concern has always been the wind, not theft. Have already had one replaced due to shipping damage. If there were wind warnings then I suppose we would bring inside, but so far have had no problems.

We've got a Tailgater for our little Outback that we use to boondock in Colorado. We just toss it out in the dirt making sure there is a clear view of the south and have HD in about 10 minutes. I have seen fivers and MH with ladder mounted Tailgators. Just plain damn stupid to setup and use.
