It's been that way on ALL toll roads and bridges throughout the country forever.....tag pulling a toad pays the big bucks....that's why I avoid toll roads....I'd rather use the back roads anyway. Being retired has it's advantages......Dennis

get off of 75 north of Leesburg,over to 27/441 stay on 27 to Cleremont where you can pick up 192 and drive right in to Disney,there is also a lot of nice campgrounds along the way and in Cleremont,oh no tolls.

I think you are correct, but I'd add that some systems use both a light curtain and treadles (sensors embedded in the road) to increase accuracy of the count.

Clearly the turnpike system is not working at this location because it counted 6 axles rather than 5.

OK, if it helps... change commercial to LARGE and non commercial to small in my post. The sensor is in the pavement, it will not count your mud flap. Yes the tolls are calculated by number of axles only and once you go over two they assume you are a LARGE vehicle which costs more per axle than a small vehicle.

I couldn't find anything on the toll calculator about "commercial" rates and becoming a commercial vehicle. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the tolls are calculated by number of axles only. Commercial intent is irrelevant.

I had this same problem when going over the Delaware Memorial bridge once but I simply went through the cash lane and the attendant calculated it correctly.

I think this is more of a computer vs. human problem. The computer has a sensor that counts axles at ground level so my 3 axles plus mud guard plus two toad axles becomes 6 axles. I don't think there is anything else to this.

I've contacted Sunpass and they will review the film and adjust as necessary. I'll let you know what they say.

Are you sure you are being charged correctly? The toll for two axles is $2.85 and the toll for three axles is $5.70 so combined, you should pay $6.55 for this trip. But if you were charged for 5 axles, you'd pay a whopping $11.40. I don't see the advantage of paying one time for 5 axles. You may want to check on this.

And, No, I didn't sign up for including my car being pulled. Why would I do that? I often drive to Disney without it.

Florida Turnpike Toll Calculator

I-95 to "BeachLine" (528) just south of Titusville and then the 417 toll will take you to Disney. There is a toll and I think would be around $8-10 with a toad. Traffic is minimal compared to I-4 trip and time from I-95 to Disney is about an hour.

H13 take transponder X1 out of the car and put it in alum foil when you tow it. When you sign up for the Sun Pass you included your car being pulled so it's going to charge you for five axle when it senses your transponder X2.
I have only one transponder and use for both vehicles and they bill me correctly.
