In many states (including Montana and Washington), the vehicle manufacturer's statements of ratings and warnings have no force in law. Only the GVW the vehicle is registered for (if any) can be enforced. So, exceeding the GVWR or GCWR is not a ticketable offense. That is why my old one ton dually was registered for 14,000 lb. GVW.
However, exceeding the weight per inch of tire width IS a ticketable offense. That weight is determined by the State for each roadway, and will vary accordingly.
