Since you live in SD, a temp of at or just below freezing probably wouldn't affect you as greatly as us natives. Speaking as a native, however, both locales can get colder than a witch's appendage in a brass bra!! To us natives, that is. ;)
Meanwhile, the suggestions given so far are superb! Be sure to hit Google Maps and their reviews for which restaurants are actually GOOD... and which are just tourist traps! You'd be surprised. Should you decide on Gulf Shores — there's a reason it's called "The Redneck Riviera"! — do try to make a trip around to Bon Secour for a stop at either Billy's Seafood or Aquila Seafood for shrimp/crab/etc. that have been pulled out of the water THAT DAY! You won't eat frozen ever again!
