Whatever you do, DO NOT flash your high beams -- it just serves to temporarily blind anyone in front who's looking in their mirrors. If you can't turn your headlights off, then on, don't do it at all. The usual protocol is for the vehicle being passed to blink his headlights off, then on, to signify that it's safe to pull back in, then the vehicle passing, once safely back in the lane, blinks his marker lights to say thanks. That's what the buttons on the Smart Wheel are designed to do.
Mike, most all the trucks flash their bright lights at me to signal me over. I have never found the bright lights to be bothersome. Now, at night, that would be more of a problem but I don't drive at night (99.9% of the time in the motorhome).

Mark, I was really talking about nighttime driving, which I do a fair amount of. During the day, you're right, high beams aren't such an issue -- although I still use the off-the-on signal with the headlights, as I've seen lots of truckers do.
