Do you have trouble with slides

I'm thinking about buying a different diesel pusher. Mine is older but is in really good shape but I would like to have additional room (slides) and some of the more modern features.

I've found a couple, both in the 36-37 foot range.

2002 Monaco Knight with a double slide (1. Bedroom slide and 2. Kitchen and couch slide). Both slides are driver side.

2003 Holiday Rambler Endeavor, triple slide (1. bedroom slide, 2. Kitchen and couch on passenger side and 3. Table and chair on driver side).

I haven't gone to see either one yet and they are a few hundred miles apart and away from me. I know the triple slide would give a little extra floor space in the "living area". My question is how much trouble are slides, getting them to open and close as they should. How noisy are they driving down the road. Are they prone to leak during a rain, etc.

Your general impressions and experiences is what I'm wanting to know.

  • I have three slides and really like them. The only time I a problem with them is when my house batteries were old and yes the engine was running per the mfg. The people that work on my MH told that if this happens again, start the generator which then puts out a large charge to the batteries and the slide closed without a problem.

I put new batteries in and haven't had a problem since except when the small bedroom slide blew a fuse. Never did figure out why. Put in a new fuse and haven't had a problem since.

  • My opinion is to get as many slides as you can afford. They really are not that much trouble and sure make living in a coach a whole lot nicer. Saying that one of our slides is a full slide and since 2007 it has been trouble free. My opinion is to keep your coach level before extending the slides. Some coaches might recommend different though.:)
