I've never thought of traveling with them closed. Why go to the effort (although it's not much) to close and open them all of the time? Why did you consider the question?

Our doors will latch open or closed, so they stay put either way without any slamming. And they're over half way down the MH so having them open or closed doesn't make any difference on the cooling.
While driving our front end area stays nice and cool. I was noticing the other day that when the two slides are in, the front ends of the slides that come in right behind the driver's and passenger's seats form a nice partial wall to keep the cooler air up front. The two slide walls probably block about half of the MH width behind the seats.
