Doghouse cracked

I ran into something last weekend that I haven't heard of before.

I have a gas motorhome, see sig, with a doghouse. The doghouse has a lid that fits in the access hole on the top. The access hole has a lip around it that the lid fits into.

The lip has cracked and separated from the doghouse about half way around the hole.

I am hoping that a fiberglass guy can fix it with a repair kit.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

  • I to had the same problem with my dog house found it was weight from steping on it fiberglased it and built cover out of wood and stained it same as cabinets so I don't have to walk on it any more
  • Do it yourself, but if you've got a 'friend' in the business, that's even better. That said, I would consider beefing up the underside with some sheet metal imbedded in the glass. It will make it a bit stronger and last forever. I had a Winnie and did the work myself. They crack because the kids like to crawl, sit or climb on them. My wife used to also have to crawl over it to get to the copilot's seat. All this abuse takes it's toll. Beefing it up now will prevent issues later on....Dennis
  • Thanks all....That's what I thought.....I know a guy that can do it for me.
  • Easy repair. If you don't care to attempt it, almost any independant auto body shop will repair it for you
  • if your handy? you can get a fiberglass repair kit at a auto store. not a hard job. just plan it out and go for it.
  • Most dog houses are fiberglass so I am sure that it can be repaired with a fiberglass repair kit. Just be sure to remove any adhesive or carpet/sound deadening before you apply the resin/cloth.
