Dolly towing a 4 down vehicle

I am wondering if you have a car that the manufacture has labeled as a 4 down tow-able vehicle can you tow that same same vehicle on a tow dolly. Example: I currently tow a front wheel drive vehicle on a tow dolly. If I sold that vehicle and bought vehicle, Lets say a Jeep, that is 4 down tow-able can I just put the front wheels up on the tow dolly an tow away? Or do I have to do something special to the Jeep? And also if the vehicle I purchase is a Manual transmission can I just put it in Neutral and tow it on the dolly? Any help appreciated.
