Domectic refrigerator operation

To anyone that's done it how involved is removing the Dometic frig?

Whats the procedure?

I would say that "burping" a fridge (turning it upside down for 24 hours, putting it back up for 3) can get some more use from it. However, it will fail eventually. But, it is cheaper than a new unit, so it might be something to try as a stopgap...

this is my first real trip with my B and I have to see if its going to work for my hunting if it does I will probably do more upgrades

Fortunately there weren't any nay-sayers around when my fridge in an old TC wasn't cooling. I figured it was worth a try, and since I would have had a hard time coming up with the financial means to do anything else, I tried it. I spend a couple of days rolling it around the front yard, flipping it, and putting bandaids on it :W

When I put it back in it worked fine, and continued to work fine until I sold the camper several years later. Things aren't always absolute. Some things just can't be known until they're tried.

But, I would certainly understand if the OP said "I don't have time for this garbage" and just replaced it. Today, that's probably what I'd do too.

Like I stated earlier......gurgling noises means a blockage

are nothing but bandaid fixes that will NOT solve your blockage problem

The sodium chromate (anti-rust inhibitor) has crystallized from overheating probably due to numerous off level operations in past) and has plated out on inside of tubes...........like a plaque.
It is rock hard, permanent and will not go back into solution

The turning upside down, flipping etc. may break some of the plaque loose and allow a bit of flow but you still have a blockage that interrupts the proper flow of coolant which just causes more overheating due to inadequate flow which just causes more blockage.

Your cooling unit is DEAD.

Replace the cooling unit, replace the complete fridge (another absorption type or a compressor type) or remove it/use space as storage and get a yeti cooler.

If you decide to flip it/turn it upside down..hopefully that is just part of the process on its way to the trash

If you feel like messing with it you could could pull the fridge out, turn it upside down, and leave it like that for a few hours. Then turn it right side up and leave it like that for a few hours. Repeat a few times, then re-install it. It might work, and it might not. It worked once for me, and it's worked for a few others. You've got nothing to lose at this point, seeing how it's sort of boat anchor-ish now. :B

no luck I let it run on electric all night and its just making gurgling sounds, its not the least bit cold


I've read a lot of problems with dometic andmay just pull it and install one of these
