rkburdick......I'm guessing you have a 4 door Norcold by looking at your coach. Some coach companies wired both an INVERTER outlet and a SHORE POWER outlet behind the refer. The INVERTER outlet is for the ice maker, not for running the refer.

In the case of the OP, their coach was originally equipped with a Xantrex 458 inverter/converter/ 3 stage battery charger.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE AUTO! If you have an inverter wired in, like our Xantrex Prosine 2.0, and it happens to be set to "Invert", when you loose the shore power or generator the inverter will kick in to supply AC, drawing 40 amps or so from the batteries. Don't bother to ask me how I know this. :S

We have also done this intentionally but only when we are in full sun and the 420 watts of solar will supply about half the required current.

We don't drive with the propane on. We find that if we run the fridge when we park for lunch it will keep cold enough while driving, even in Mexico.

Your coach should be wired so that the alternator will charge the house batteries while the engine is running. Your refrigerator is more than likely wired to run off the inverter when it is turned on... So you ought to be able to run the refrigerator on either propane or off the inverter while driving.

OP, according to his profile, has a 2003 Travel Supreme so most likely it has an inverter. Set it to auto and let it be...Dennis

What Brand & Model is the fridge?

Typically they are 2 way (AC & LP).........some are 3 way (AC, LP & DC)
Those are the types of heating soures

AC is used when 110V power is available
LP is used when NO 110V power
DC is used when traveling and battery draw can be replaced via alternator etc.

If you have an 'auto' setting on fridge upper panel just place it in auto.
When you have 110V AC power it will run on that source. When you drop AC power source fridge will automatically change to LP operation.

Inverter takes DC power from battery converts it to 110V AC power source and can be used to operate some AC appliances BUT you are limited on what appliances you can run plus you need a means of recharging them

Yep, use auto and forget it. You might also want to make sure it runs on the inverter...that is pretty unusual.
