Bluedog: I wont fill your head with formulas or whatever...but I'll give you a true life experience.
36 ft coach ( length doesnt matter) loaded for vacation and weighing in at 31,000 pulling a 3700 lb Jeep liberty "4 down" and running a Cumming ISC 330 hp. Running in a caravan with a 40ft Dutchstar loaded towing a ( I forget??) running a 400 Cummins with 425 HP.
The 330 hp Cummins...not enough. The 400 Cummins more than needed.
I THINK a ISL 3.8 running 370 HP and its 1000-1100 torgue would have worked nicely.
PROBLEM is this. YA CANT BUY WHAT YA WANT. You get the engine the builder installs...period. So ( assume your buying new..???) do you want under powered or more than enough power.
And that old wives tales about smaller diesels use less fuel...etc....thats total BS also. The people that drive them piddle along...dont even try and accelerate onto a freeway ( wont do them any good to try and blend)
