DriveShaft spline showing

Hello --

I just picked up a 2004 Pace Arrow 35G with a workhorse chassis. I was greasing up the drive shaft and I noticed on the last section of the drive shaft going into the pumpkin, the spline was showing about 2 inches. I looked at the other sections and they all look tight. The spline does not have any wear on it.

My question, is that the normal play and it floats back and forth?

Thanks
Eric
  • Does it have Super Slide (blue coating) on it? I wouldn't get concerned. They do move back and forth as the differential articulates up and down. Usually they have a rubber boot on them.
  • It's probably normal. All drive shafts have splines somewhere in them because the length changes as the suspension goes up and down. It's possible there is supposed to be a protective boot over the splines. But I doubt it, as that seems like a pretty unlikely location to have something snag and tear the boot.
