Have driven it S to N several times with our rig and it is a nice scenic drive, for the most part. This time of the year you need to watch the weather as it can be anything from hot and sunny to heavy blowing snow. Are you staying on 395 south of Reno or getting on 95? 395 south of Reno can get very iffy this time of year and has some higher elevations to cross. You should enjoy the trip.
