E450 various electrical problems.

It's a 2007 Coachman. The low beams didn't work, so I put it up by the garage to take a look. Both bulbs are good (continuity with the ohmmeter on both filaments). And the 2 fuses are good. I went to move it, and the starter wouldn't crank now. I can start it by going underneath and jumping the solenoid stud to the battery cable. When trying to start it, the only clicking is back by the house batteries. I am now suspecting that the slide's lockout switch is preventing voltage getting to the starter. Where is that switch??
Then I notice the AC isn't working. Hot air blowing out the vents. Could these problems be linked some how?? TIA. -pat m.

  • Pat, living here in FL you will find you will get a LOT of corrosion on all wire connectors. It's that darn salty seabreeze. Remove all connectors one at a time, clean them then reinstall.
  • Yeah, sounds like maybe its trying to pull from the coach battery. Battery cables on the starting batteries are always a good place to start for any electrical gremlins. Besides that, the only place in the rig where all those systems are tied together is in the power distribution box under under the hood. I have no idea how they wire in lockouts however.

Also... be sure to do a visual inspection of the main wiring harness. Sometimes rodents decide they are tasty.

Cannot speak to a Slide Switch, but we've had a rash of bad Battery Cables lately. That and the connections at the Starter Solenoid in the fender well.
