ECM batt fuse keeps blowing.

Just returned from vacation with my 1998 windsport on p30 chassis. When backing up onto leveling blocks and reving up the engine it popped the ECM batt fuse. Engine would turn over but not start.

I replaced it and it started fine. Tried it again and it popped again. When I tried to replace the fuse again it produced an arc and burnt a place on the blade of the fuse. Did not get the fuse back in.

Now I can't get the engine to even turn over. Any ideas? Never had this problem before. Just returned from a 1000 mile trip with no problems.

    Sounds like ECM is bad. They can get moisture in them.Get a test done if you can or pull the ECM and have it tested. You can have them rebuilt on sites from EBAY.

    No, do not replace the ECM. Get wiring diagram and trace the circuit. Or, take it to a good shop.

    Think about this,if the motor ran but blew the fuse while backing under load,replaced fuse backed again and blew fuse.something that you did caused the short to blow the fuse. If you look at a motor and trans under load the whole unit twists,if you put it in reverse it twists the opposite direction.worn mounts and such can exaggerate the twist. look for a spot on the harness,near engine or trans or even the driveshaft that is close to sharp metal.overtime spots can rub thru on the harness. harder to find would be 2 wires rub topgether. wiggle test as many harnesses you can see,then replace the fuse again. if you can get it started then watch the engine while someone backs it up under load (brake on).
