electric / propane water heater question

A question on our new MH. We have a 2013 Fleetwood 40x.It has the electric / propane water heater. The switch for both is up front by the front door in a cabinet. How do you know when the electric is working?

The reason I ask is the first time we camped at night the propane would fire up two or three times over night. Our other campers never did this.I'm sure I turned the switch on.

I guess Winnebago did it right. Separate switch for gas/propane on HWH. No guessing.

It doesn't solve the problem there either, if its not working. What difference would it make where its located? It could be on the roof for all that matters. That's why I asked. Thought there might be a quick way to find out.

Some of them also have a switch outside under the water heater cover. Is that one on??? Shut off propane and see if you get hot water

I looked,no switch at the tank. I guess I can just run it without the propane. It will probably take all day to heat up.
