electric steps

my electric steps work one day and dont work the next time i stop ...I've checked the ground checked the wiring..??? any sugestions
anyone ealse have this happen
  • I bought a replacement controller on E-bay a couple of years ago.
  • thanks for the imfomation...I will check the controller can change that out myself
  • The wiring is in a vulnerable location and picks up moisture and dirt which can affect the electrical connection. I would recommend cleaning the connections and using some dialectic grease. Mine has more than one ground connection, and I would check them all.
  • You do not state what brand steps. But, If Kwikee, next time it happens, activate the door pin switch either by opening and closing the door with the engine ON. Watch the amber underneath step light. IF it turns on and off when the door is opened and closed and the step does not move---Your MOTOR is defective. If you have LCI steps, the controller is probably defective. Doug
  • Mine did the same thing for several months before the controller finally gave up the ghost. Sound like yours is starting to do the same. You can check, whenever it's not working by checking 12 volts going into the controller and if nothing is coming out (to the motor) then it's more than likely the controller. If there is no voltage going to the controller during one of these outages, look elsewhere for the problem.
  • Mine acted up a few years ago and eventually quit working. It was the control unit going nuts and eventually dying. Put in new control unit and all has been well so far.
