Electric tank heaters.

Hi it's me again, would it be a good idea to install TANK HEATERS under my Grey/Black and fresh water tank. They go for about $190.00 each is it worth the investment they also sell Elbow/Pipe heating tape should i also insulate and heat these Pipes and Elbows.

Have a great day everyone.
Thanks again.

  • Thank you all for your help, i had purchased just posting a pipe heating tape or cable in the instructions they say not use on soft potable water hose because the heat might melt the hose ans also risk of fire but i saw on the web a video where the guy wrap aluminum foil around the hose then he covers the hose with insulating foam it comes in 6' length then he feeds the heating tape inside between the insulating foam and the aluminum foil my question is, is it safe to do this for the potable water hose that runs from front to back and between the floors of the rv since this hose is the longest
    hose.
  • We travel in the Winter months out West and it is not unusual to be in temps well below freezing and even below zero.
I keep our fresh water tank close to full and only hook up my sewer hose to drain my black/grey tanks.
I use a temperature controlled outlet, like this( Thermo plug).
To this I hook up one of those shielded garage trouble lights with a 150 watt incandescent light bulb. With this installed in my wet compartment we have never had any pipes freeze or tanks freeze.
A lot of coaches have ducts where some of the furnace heat is diverted into the wet compartments but we very seldom use our gas furnace. We prefer the electric heat to keep our coach comfortable so the 150 watt light bulb is our solution.
  • Thanks everyone for the info. Forgive my ignorance but what is a thermocube TC-3.
To answer your question smkettner the price is $190.00 canadian not installed.
  • Hi,

Go to Walmart. Buy a house brand heating pad for each tank. Add a thermocube TC-3.

Fasten the heating pad(s) to the tanks with 3M VHB tape.
