We're going down the syskyous and a light came on...???? The engine died what does this mean

this is a brake that was looked at before we left. The man said we didn't need to replace the linings. There was oil all over the place, and I have no idea of the details other than that I'll have to ask. So, no, it wasn't the coolant.
