entry level, older rv

Well, we went over to El Monte rentals to look at two class A motorhomes. Very dirty. I don't understand why they wouldn't clean them before putting them on the lot for sale. I think they were priced accordingly to what I saw, especially knowing that they come with a small warranty. But, they were not quite what we were looking for. The search continues. Going to Lazy days (sp?) today.

Hi noonenosthis, we bought it privately. The previous owners were the second owners and looked after it well. Always covered when not being used, all synthetic oils, records of everything and because he was a body shop owner, some of the original colours are gone.
I think I stuck in my thumb and pulled out a plum! Doug

Around 1999 both Ford and Chevy moved on to their newer big black v8's. Ford to the V10, which I have, and Chevy to the 8.1 with the Allison Transmission. I purchased a 2000 low mileage Holiday Rambler, installed the 5 Start tune and have been very pleased. The Chevy (Workhorse) combo may be a better power train, but I was scared off by all the brake and other issues they had. I can get my Ford worked on by almost any shop, although I have done all my own work so far. I did not want any of the problems that come with slides, so got a rig without them, but it's just my wife and I, that may not work for you. Lots of nice used rigs out there at great prices, good luck with your search.

Thank you all for the information. We looked at a 99 Winnebago Adventurer today. It was very nice with a couple of exceptions. There is a floor vent just about in front of the frig. When I walked over it the floor gave way a bit. I showed the salesman and watched him walk there and the floor did give. What would cause that? Its in the middle of the coach. Its a very nice coach but wow.

V10 F53 is a great choice in the '99 up range.

If you go Workhorse, you will want to research the W series that came in '01, and the P32 that lasted until 2005.

Just a tip on slides. Make sure you view the MH with ALL the slides "IN" before you buy it.

Many coaches when the slides are in you can not get to the bathroom or get to anything in the bedroom. I've seen some that you can't even walk thru the coach with them in. :R

When you are traveling down the road there are going to many times you will want 'full' access to the inside of your coach. To get a bite to eat out of the fridge, get a sweater or use the bathroom, etc. Some MH's with slides will not allow you access when they are in.

IMHO I bought a MH to be able to use my own bathroom instead of public rest rooms. I want to be able to get to it without deploying all the slides, when I stop at a rest area or to fuel up. :B

The trend in Class A's seem to be two slides. I would look for that option because you're touching the price where you can get it.

Of course one slide, well maintained, and a high quality brand will trump the two slide. I figured I would say it, even though it's obvious to most just so the thread doesn't take a turn away from your initial question.

I would stay away from no slides given what you have, and for resale value reasons.

I prefer Ford V10. I have an Excursion now. I just like the V10.
I want to be under 25000.00 Not looking for something huge but something that will fit three dogs and three grandsons, oh yeah and my husband!
