Entry steps

I have a 2003 Country Coach Intrigue. I'm having trouble with the entry steps going in and out at will, even when I'm driving. This just started a couple days ago. Prior to that they operated correctly. I have a friend that also has a Country Coach with the same problem. Any ideas what the cause could be? Thanks.

The '03 does not have a magnet type switch.

  • The posts above do not describe your Country Coach. If you open the door and look on the door jamb approximately 4" above the door sill, you will find a button which is part of a mechanical switch. On the door, you will find a plunger that pushes in on that button when the door is closed. The switch is a make or break type so if the plunger isn't adjusted properly to keep the switch pushed it, it could cause your problem.

You might want to pull out your schematics to see what else is in the circuit. There is also a rocker switch on the panel just inside the front door on the right side that could be faulty

The magnetic switch is a small glass tube with two reeds inside it. it's burried in the door jam, likely near the bottom on the latch side, and it's the screen (inner door) jamb at that. You can not see it so don't bother looking.

You might be able to find the magnet, it's in the bottom corner (Latch side) of the screen door on most RV's.

IF the screen door is bent so that the bottom corner does not come in all the way..... that will do it, (cause your problem) Normally this can be fixed by simply 'Adjusting' the door (Take two hands, apply firmly and adjust (Bend) the door).
  • I have my coach in for service for the very same thing. The Dynamax does not have a "magnetic" switch, it has copper push pins that go in and out when the door is closed or open triggering the stairs. I first checked the wiring to see if anything was loose like a ground under the coach. All where tight. Now they believe it is a loose wire at the switch itself that turns it on or off or it could be a short....funny, I've now seen 4 posts with people having the same problem.

I was sweating a bit when I passed a "wide load" going down the freeway crossing my fingers that the steps did not decide to extend at the WRONG time....
  • Where would I find the magnetic switch? What does it look like? Thanks.
  • The only thing I can think of is the magnetic door switch. Maybe the door is closing differently or the switch moved?
