Excursion Tail Pipe Drag

I have been looking at a 2015 Fleetwood Excursion 33D. I finally drove it a few days ago. The tail pipe hit and dragged in even the shallowest dips. I don't think the skid bars hit, but they may have. Anyone else have this issue?
  • Thanks for your replies. We bought the Excursion. A Freightliner service center checked the ride height and found it to be slightly higher the manufacturer's specs. I talked to a Freightliner customer service rep about modifying the chrome tail pipe extension and was told not too change anything or it would void our warranty. The service mechanic asked the rep about extending the skid bars by adding a few washers to lessen the tail pipe drag. He was told that that would also void the warranty. So I'm being very careful about the driveways I enter. Again, thanks.

    Well Sir,
Without some sort of pictures, to show how it's sitting, i.e. level, ride height, angle of departure and more, to show your "slightest" dips etc., it's kind-a hard to really make a call as to what, or if, your problem is. I don't know how many diesel pushers have, ever had, or, ever will have with ride height but, of all the folks I've known/know etc. with diesels, including myself, have never had any issues with ride height.

That's not to say it can't happen, it's just incredibly rare. As Brett Wolf stated, it's possible (but again, incredibly rare) that the tail pipe is too low. Does this coach in particular have a rake angle on the back? That is, is the bottom of the coach, slanted up, from the back wheels to the rear of the coach?

  • I have the 2014 33D, no drag or bump under usual circumstances. Have it checked.
  • Have the dealer check the ride height. Make sure he checks the front, too. After he has made adjustments, drive the same route and see if the tail pipe bottoms out again.

If he refuses to do the adjustment, find a new dealer.

    Good luck
  • Wonder if the RIDE HEIGHT was correct???

    Tail pipe rotated too low???
