Extended Warranty- again

I just purchased a new 2014 diesel pusher and an extended warranty for the coach.

My question is, of those who purchased an extended warranty, did you feel it was worth it and, if you used it, did you have any problems with getting the claims taken care of.

Thanks.

  • We bought an XtraRide Platinum 2 year policy when we bought our 2003 Executive in 2011. In our case, the only claim we filed in the two years was for a new alternator. XtrRide was absolutely superb to deal with. They located and arranged for a mobile repair service to do the job right at our campsite. We paid our $100 deductible to the repair tech and the job was done in a couple of hours.

Now, our policy has expired and I'm on the fence about renewing it. My current thinking is to look for a drivetrain-only policy, to just have coverage for a catastrophic failure that could run into 5 figures.

why would one purchase extended warrenty on a brand new unit> why not wait till the factory warrenty is over?

    1. If the OEM goes out of business the ESC takes over
    2. If the OEM denies a warranty claim, the ESC sometimes will take over
    3. The contracts are Cheaper when purchased at time of new sale even tho the OEM will warranty for the first few years
    4. 2 Kinds of ESC people----1. People that purchased a ESC and are very happy because they DID have covered claims------2. People that did purchase but did not have enough covered claims, but feel they wasted the money
    5. I do NOT make any money off of ESC contracts, But, I have had them on the used cars I buy and have had claims and repairs MORE than the purchase price. I have one on my HD and have been paid more than 3 times the purchase price. Years ago before RV's became more complicated, then buying one seemed out of place. With appliances and such costing what they do, it is a good bet to purchase one. Doug
  • No and this is why

    Service Contract issues

You do not have a warranty as you have a service contract with many limiting conditions such as if an an uncovered part damages an uncovered part then only the covered part is covered. if an uncovered part damages a covered part then neither part is covered.

  • When we purchased our coach, part of the deal was the extended warranty. I believe the cost was around $4500. During the contract period, the warranty company paid around $10,000 in repairs. I am now on my second warranty and they've already replaced my Norcold, one of my mirror cameras and several other misc. items. I have a $50/ded so if it breaks, they fix it...just sayin...I've never had any problems getting the claims paid, but..you and the "fixer" have to follow the rules to the letter...read your contract and do what it says with no short cuts if you have a claim. YES, IMHO, they are worth it for the cost and peace of mind...Dennis
