Brand new to this. Bought an older rig with 30 amp service. I have nothing to compare to so my question may seem silly. My outlet is a 30 amp female. I would assume that the connection at a campsite would also be female. I'm far far far from an electrician and know zero about it but it doesn't make sense to me to have a cord with two male ends. I went to Walmart to get a new cord. Of course the ones they had were female to male. Any help?

A cord with two male ends is commonly referred to as a suicide cord. A major no-no. Something missing here. Your rig should either have an attached cord or have a male connector to connect to a standard power cord with one female end and one male end.

I believe that the out let you are looking at is the outlet from the generator. to use it you plug your 30 amp shore power cord into that outlet and start the generator. You do have a 30 amp shore power cord with a 30 amp male plug on the end don't you??You will not or should not ever use a cord with two male plugs, one on each end, they call that a sucide cord. So let us know what you have for a shore power cord. And yes the camp ground pedestal will have a 30 amp female receptical so your 30 amp shore power cord will plug right in to it.

This rig was a trade. It's old. Got it for a project. Tons of things to deal with. The kids are using it as a playhouse. Just going to spend some time playing with it. I would have never bought one this way. Anyhoo...there is a female in the back of the rig in a storage cabinet under the rig. Next to the female is a junction box with no cover just exposed wires. So I wasn't sure which one actually was intended to go from the rig to the box.

From the picture in your post it appears that the power cord has been removed from the 4x4 box on the right side, There is one knockout removed and there are two EMT clamps visible on the right side of the box which would have been used to hold the shore cable in place. The shore cable would of been tied into the wires in the 4x4 box and then it would of had a blank cover on it. Like Executive said when using the generator you would unplug your shore power cable from the CG pedestal and plug it into the receptacle on the left side of the picture. My MIL had an older camper like that. In your OP you said that you did not know about electricity, you might want to talk with an electrician about this. It's an easy job for them to do this. JMO

Ok Dennis. It gets worse than I know nothing about electrical. I'm a girl. Lol. If it requires power tools and wood I am good to go. I can build a house, but couldn't wire it to save my life. I looked in every dang compartment out there and there is no cord to be found. So what do I do now? I don't really understand the exposed wires. I know it is a hot, cold, and a ground (that is the extent of my knowledge) but I don't understand what they are used for. I don't want to pay the rv guys to fix something if it is something I can do.

Picture is posted...thanks...that is a RECEPTACLE and you use a PLUG to complete the connections.

On older coaches, you had to disconnect the shore cord and plug the end into that outlet in order to use the generator. In other words, look in that compartment for a short cord with a MALE end...a PLUG. Your shore cord would then be male and female....hope that makes sense.

Put another way, that receptacle comes FROM your generator. The short cord that plugs into it feeds everything in your coach. To use shore power, you unplug that short cord and plug your shore line into it.....Dennis

I would just buy a new cord and hard wire it in - which is probably how it was originally.
