One trick I've used a few times is to put out some battery powered pop-up LED lanterns (such as are about two or so inches in diameter and an inch thick when collapsed and are inexpensively available many places) at key points as markers. They don't do a great job of lighting up the environment enough to see from the cab, but they are fine to provide a point reference for the corner of the picnic table or the mailbox post or whatever.
