EZ Pass while towing - oops

Put the pass in a drawer in MH while towing car - did not work as on two occasions it read even though I paid cash.

Lesson learned - they said to wrap it up in aluminum foil
  • NJ's EZ Pass allows multiple vehicles on an account but limits the number of transponders to 4 (if memory serves). The motorhome, however, can't be on a "car" account - it has to be commercial. It's a blue tag and the regular ones are white. Not sure how they would account for me towing with the MH.

I any event, when they send you a tag they also send you a metallic-type bag to store the tag in if you don't want it registering.
  • VA's EZPASS also allows for multiple tags registered to the same account. I pull the EZPASS from my daily driver, lay it on the Bounder's dash, and away we go. If I need to, I can also put the EZPASS in the TOAD.
  • We use a separate NY State issued E-ZPass transponder for our motorhome because the NY Thruway has a special plan where we only get charged passenger car per axle rates instead of the higher large truck or bus rates. We also have a separate transponder for when we're towing with the motorhome, so we get the lower rate either way. Putting the toad's transponder in an RF blocking bag is a minor inconvenience compared to the savings.
  • Is that how they work in your state?
I have CA FasTrack and one for whole family, so no matter what I drive and what I tow it works just fine.
Have 5 licence plates on single account as we cross toll about once a month.
Automatic account recharge from my account.
Love the 60mph toll crossing on new bridge -talking about fast pay. ;)

Yes, that is what I do. Just to be sure.

In that case I would receive a bill in the mail. And when we are away from home for 6-8 weeks at a clip, I would be penalized for not paying the tolls on time. :(

We do not use mail forwarding. We never know where we will be at any given time or for how long. :@

    Retirement is grand! :B

Its for the car not the motor home pulling a car

  • Ironic as on a recent business trip mine did not read at two tolls even though I have it mounted on my windshield. You just can't win, huh?
