F-53 instrument cluster hard to see

I find the red needles on the gauges hard to read with the black background on bright sunny days. I wonder how hard it would be to pull the instrument cluster and put a dab of white on the tip of the red needles? I can see the numbers well enough to work, just the red needles are a problem.
  • Hi, I agree totally. I have an 2013 F53 from Winnebago and the insteument panel is very hard to read in the daylight. I think this is an unsafe design in the instrument panel Ford manufactured. I would appreciate reading what others recommend in response to your question. Thanks, Dr Jay
  • I don't find mine hard to read unless Ford made changes since 2008, you can add a Ultra gauge and have a digital readout as well as the cluster gauge.
  • I'd call a truck dealer that sells Fords and see what they have to say. On my 2003, it doesn't seem like to big of deal but I see you have a 2014. If you do it, make sure to disconnect ALL batteries while working on it. There's also speedo shops that could do the job but I kind of know the area where you're at and there isn't much. I think the closest Ford dealer is in Johnson City. If you were closer to Knoxville I could advise you more.

On my 2003 with the way I sit (while driving) and the position that I like the tilt wheel in, all my gauges are hidden behind the steering wheel. I just watch the GPS to watch my speed. I don't worry to much about those gauges that I can't see without ducking my head.
  • I find them hard to read also. Would be nice if the gauges were white the dark needles. I have a 2016 chassis but drive 2014 chassis trolleys for Dollywood and have the same issue. Worse when wearing sunglasses.
  • Before going to that much trouble I would install a Scan gauge. It's a do it yourself plug and play. Is a direct digital readout from the out put of the ECM and TCM, gives a backup gauge on all gauges plus more readouts that you don't see and might wish to. Will read error codes and reset them. About $175 plus or minus a little and about 10 minute install.
