F53 front end shimmy

Ever since we got our Coach out of storage this spring, it has had a front end shimmy. Everything is tight and well lubricated. Brand new tires helped, but not completely gone. Any ideas?
This is a 1998 F53 Damon.

Thanks.
  • "Shimmy" usually makes reference to a front end/tire problem. Could it be that you are chasing a "vibration" from another source, like engine misfire or drive train?

  • Shimmy is still there. Not all the time, but very noticeable.
6 brand new tires and balance, no runout issues, toe is set to 1/8" in.
Put 400 miles on it today. No tire wear or issues, but still have the shake.

This is a 2008 Damon Daybreak F53 chassis.

    Any ideas?
  • I had something similar. Although the vibration wasn't bad. I could feel it on the steering wheel. It didn't pull toward any direction. I had them check the drive shaft and all the possible wheel problems. No answers. I asked on the boards and still no fix.
Then one day I was talking with and old time mechanic and he asked if it did it more when I was going slightly up hill and the engine was working harder. I told him yes. He said it sounds like your missing a plug. Sure enough, a bad spark plug. Fixed it and problem solved.
  • Start by checking tires for RUN-OUT. Any tire dealer can do this in a matter of minutes.
  • Sorry, 2008 F53.
No bent wheels, brand new (This week) tires and balance. Nothing bent or damaged.
    No tag axle.
Just noticed the shimmy earlier this year. Happens around 45 MPH.
  • There was no 1998 F53 chassis. Is your coach on a 1997 or a 1999 chassis. If a 97 chassis with 16" tires, have the damper on the tie rod replaced.

  • If it ever hit a curb or pothole, it could possible have a bent front wheel.
  • Possibly some of the rubber front end bushings are worn out or rotted, or have been aten on by a rat?

Maybe the steering stabilizer shock is worn out or leaking?

A tire could be out of balance?
