Favorite Class A RV That is not over the top

You are in San Antonio.

Stop by PPL in New Braunfels and then in Houston. Spend a couple of yours (without a salesman hassling you) looking at over 100 coaches.

You are doing a couple of things:

1. Figuring out what floorplan works best for you.

2. Figuring out how you would rank quality. That way, posting "how would you compare coach X with coach Y" should elicit a lot better fact-based opinions than just a "what brand is best".

3. A distant third, see if any of the coaches are in the kind of condition that would warrant your interest in that specific coach.

You really need to go to dealers, rallies, rv shows...etc and look, look, look until you find what will really suit your needs. Gas, diesel....how many slides, king/queen bed, combo or stacked washer/dryer, one or two bath, tag axle or not..... there are so many options available that it will make your head spin.

Do you want to pay cash or payments? I assume you are prepared to put a large down payment; willing to purchase something for big bucks that you will never be able to recoup; ready to put up with all the things that can go wrong; able to fix them yourself; have a car that can be towed; have the bucks to equip that car for towing; prepared to pay lots of money for insurance, extended warranties and emergency roadside service.

Personally, when we were looking, I pretty much zeroed in on Newmar, Tiffin, and Entegra. Those three seemed to provide the best motorhome for the buck.

Y'all really need to provide more info for us.

IMO, you get what you pay for. There's a reason why Newells and Prevosts last forever. Fit and finish will go a long way to protecting your investment. Things like using screws instead of staples, hardwood instead of laminate, doors that fit snug instead of rattling etc. These are some of the things that make luxury coaches what they are. Monaco, Newmar and Country Coach make awesome luxury coaches. Buy whatever fits your wallet....I'm very very satisfied with my Executive. I had a Dynasty before this one. Both excellent coaches....Dennis

The first thing we look at when we walk into a coach is the ceiling. If it has hand carved wood inlays and custom swirl lighting, we walk out.

We owned a 2005 Monaco Diplomat which I thought was very luxurious, yet not over the top. It fit our style. As most, we also looked at new coaches when we were out or at a rally just for fun. Up until about 2011, we found the Newmars sooooo boring inside, that we skipped them.

Around 2012 or so, Newmar started adding a little more bling. We like the level of bling in our current coach. Newmar, as they add improvements to their most popular model, the Dutch Star, is getting to get close to that tipping point where an interior can become gaudy.

Monaco, Newmar, Journey, Bounder. Narrow your search to those models (or models chosen after your own research).

Note that there are certain years where each of those models is a great unit, with Monaco and Newmar generally putting out the best rigs, and other years where they have issues. But of course, anyone of them can have issues. Like the bad Norcold refers, or a badly unbalanced house design causing early tire problems and poor handling.

Settle on a price range you can afford. Spend hours searching the web for the brand of RVs you've chosen for sale at that price. Having a set price gives you an idea of the 'year' of RV you can afford. Once you have that info, then come here, search for threads about the models in that year (+/- 2 years) you're looking at to see if they have really difficult issues (like Winnebago slide issues of a couple years ago). Once you've found a couple interesting RVs for sale, than come here and ask us what we think about them. One at a time.

That's probably the best way to get helpful suggestions from this group, chop the job up into little pieces.

Buying a big rig like a Class A isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. Took me 2 years of causal searching (after deciding on those 4 models) and 6 months of active searching to finally find what I could live with. Very happy with what I got.

I still like the one that is paid for. Only you can know what you like, everyone's likes are different. My used and paid for Winnebago adventurer has been good to me, so far.

I like it simple also. Here is my 20 year old Country Coach with a simple single slide.
Some day I may ditch the mirrors.

Anything can break
Gas or Diesel
And when it breaks diesel will cost more to repair
It might break less often ?

Table and chairs, give the feel of a stick house, but booths have extra interior storage space, and make into a bed for extra sleeping space, great for the grand kids
