Favourite places in Texas

Good Morning: This winter we are planning on visiting south Texas. In particular, Galveston area, Corpus Christi/South Padre Island area and Brownsville.

Any suggestions on RV parks in those areas would be greatly appreciated.

We do a lot of bicycling so would appreciate any insight on biking in those areas too.

  • All Ive seen of the great state of TX was Amarillo and San Antonio.....loved them both
  • Galveston has a State Park and there are several private parks as well. People like riding bikes and walking on the seawall built after the hurricane of 1900. There is Bishops Palace and old homes to see.To me the Galveston water is muddy looking compared to Fulton area due to the gulf currents and relation to the Mississippi River. If you want pristine looking water keep heading south to Laguna Madre and Padre Island. I live between Houston and Galveston on Galveston Bay. Just thought I would share some insight. Water in Fulton looks greener but still muddy.

I agree completely about everything you say about Travelers World. It'll be my port when I get back to San Antonio. ( And that little mom and pop restaurant across the street!..wow...talk about great food..mmmmm)

Taqueria Guadalajara and it gets constant good reviews on Yelp and UrbanSpoon.

Nueces County IB Magee Beach Park in Port Aransas. Nothing fancy but right on the beach!! And convenient to the rest of Port Aransas.

Travelers World RV Resort in San Antonio. Perfect location to tour all the missions and down town San Antonio. Don't let the neighborhood where Travelers World is located spook your. It is located in a historical district and the locals can't do any thing to fix up their homes without spending a fortune that they can't afford. They even have to get the color of paint approved by the historical committed. Travelers World is surrounded by good people who have to live in crappy looking houses because they can afford to fix them up.

  • We really liked the Rockport area! Never spent an entire winter there, though.

  • This (Ransom Road RV Park) is one of my favorite parks in the Port Aransas/Aransas Pass area, although it may be filled up during the winter months. Close to the water, and a park with swimming pool just about 1/4 mile walk away.
  • We winter in the Rockport/Fulton area with Port Aransas a short drive away via the free ferry for beach visits. Corpus is ok (large city), but we didn't care for Brownsville at all.
  • I have driven the Texas coast for years. Bad sight put an end to that. A must stay for you would be SandDollar Resort in Fulton Texas.
1 hour by car to Corpus
Reasonable rates Genuine friendly staff. Restaurant /bar on water. Breakfast at resturant, 2 pools x clean bath and wash room.
3 hour to Brownsville, OK to see once in my opinion
Lots of bike riding along Fulton/ Rockport beach Rd
1 hour across ferry to Port Aransas, 20 miles of beach riding etc.
    Kayak, canoeing galore
About a 3 hour ride to Progresso Mexico, need passport, border town for dental, glasses, botox, cheap medicines etc.
A local privatebus service runs from Rockport used to be about $40 return
no, I"m not the owner! HEHEIf you are considering it, you might want tio call no as Snow birds fill it up for the winter
