Filled an empty water tank, can't draw water

First time RV owner.
I just filled the empty water tank on my just-purchased 1996 Fleetwood Southwind Class A motor home for my first trip. I turned on the water pump, which I can hear running, but no water is coming out of any of the faucets. Is there another step I need to make? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Mine has a "bypass" valve to fill the tank from the city water inlet. If it's left in the bypass position (the position to fill the tank), the pump simply pumps water from the tank and back into the tank. Also, make sure all faucets are off so that they don't let air into the system.
  • Do you have a selector for filling the tank. If so turn it to the other position then try the faucets.

Obviously losing pressure somewhere or it wouldn't be running and indicating that it's going somewhere. Unless of course the pressure sw. isn't working and in which case it's probably just cavitating with a valve shut somewhere. First thing is to locate it and remove the outgoing line while it's running if nothing is obvious in the way of valves off.
  • Somewhere near the fresh water tank there is a valve that must be open.
