Finally happened to me - RV broken into first time

Today we visited the RV in the uncovered unmanned neighborhood HOA fenced storage lot and found that someone tried to break into it. We just came back from Hershey show last night, so this must have happened last night! The key hole is bent, but they were not able to open door. But they did open one of the basement doors that does not lock, and stole our 5 years old $150 portable air compressor, not a big deal. I am surprised that they did not try to open any other locked basement doors or break any windows. We are lucky. We filed a police report. And are just worried they might come back tonight? Not sure what to do. What would you do?

  • Univmd, sorry to hear of the incident. Our storage place also has a fenced lot next to the enclosed garage section. I would never consider it because I don't want our coach in the sun when not in use.

We pay $379 a month in southern California for a gated, fenced, camera'd enclosed garaged 13x50 (about 100 garages). I have a 30 amp plug-in so I leave one air on 85 (100+ outside now) and the fridge is always on.

It might be worth it to check in your area for a more protected set-up.

It's worth it to us to have the protection and I can come and go anytime as I have an opener to the electric gate. There is a manager on duty M-F 8-4.

    MM.
  • A couple of "Beware of Dog" signs posted on fence will keep most amateurs away. Then head for Walmart and do what rgatijnet1 said and get the game camera. If they had been professionals, they would have "popped" all your bay doors and probably taken out a window to get the door open.
  • A few game camera around the area might catch a digital picture of the thieves. These work off batteries and will work in the dark. Obviously you want to hide them in a location where they are not seen. You want the IR model, not the ones with a flash.
  • It doesn't sound like professional thieves, or they would have been much more successful.. Probably just your local crack head trying to get a few bucks. Are there any other rigs there, and did they try to break into them?
  • Call the storage lot manager and ask what we's going to do to secure his lot, then call the insurance company. There's no way you know when this exactly happened. No I wouldn't expect them to come back again....
