Finally Sold
Finally sold my 99 DSDP and thought I would share my experience.
I found a lot of useful advice on this forum and other sites. I checked prices everywhere and checked for the same models with the same features. One of the major sites states it takes around 180 days to sell a MH, and I was close. (I did take it off the market for a month or so to fix a few things.)
I priced below NADA low retail and was prepared to negotiate but did have to drop the price twice. I offered it inspected and certified or for $2500 less, as is.
Three serious couples came to look this weekend. The ones on Friday said they would let me know. The one on Saturday spent over 2 hours with me going over everything (he had recently sold his gasser), took it for a test drive and then pulled out his checkbook for a deposit. I think the clincher was that I also offered to deliver it, only a couple of hours away.
The other two called back Saturday night wanting to buy, but it was too late.
I did advertise on some forums, rvt.com, autotrader.ca and Kijiji. I also caved and allowed a broker to list it on his site.
I got inquiries form all sites except the broker site, lesson learned.
Many other broker sites called and claimed they had lists of people just waiting to buy my MH, I only need to pay them $200-$300 and they would put me in contact with them.
I suggested that if they had that many ready to buy, I would pay them $300 after the sale if one of their clients bought it - seems most of these folks don't have a sense of humour!
(One lady was really pushy to the point of being rude - not a way to do business!) One broker used a recorded message asking me to call back - they called daily for weeks!
Lots of people came to look (saw the sign from the highway or the ads) but most were only "tire kickers" and didn't know a DP from a gasser and were usually shocked at the asking price, which was clearly displayed. A few were knowledgeable but either had a MH they had to sell first or needed to find financing. Some offered a trade for a boat. One couple wanted to rent it for the summer.
Also a lot of emails asking for more details, but no one ever followed up.
Anyhow, a great relief to finally sell and can now concentrate on the upgrades I want to do on my 2003 DSDP in the spring.
P.S. I was OK with what I sold it for, but like everyone else I would have liked a bit more and needed to sell it before winter and having to store two MHs.
