Fire Suppression System

This is Michbill,
In January 2015, while going to FL on I-75, we saw two MH's totaled by, what I later learned from a newspaper report were, eng. fires. This summer in one of the motor home mag's I saw an write up about a fire suppression system developed in Sweden. My questions: Does anyone have any experience with this type of fire suppression system? Even though it may save the coach what effect will it have on the eng and other things in that compartment?
Thank you
Bill

  • Beyond a fire supression system dont you think real honest to goodness maintenance would be a start? How many MH owners, clean the engine compartment? Or check belts, fuel lines, and hoses regularly? Motors dont just catch on fire. There is a root cause for probably 80% of these engine fires. Figure out what that is and correct or prevent that first!
  • I gave a link the other day that was from an RV salvage yard that showed pictures of the many vehicles that they have on their lot. If you look at the pictures you will see that apparently engine fires occur quite often on DP's as most of the vehicles on their lot have rear fire damage. I would think that an investment in a fire suppression system is a necessity.

They are probably similar to what NASCAR uses in race cars, looks like a sprinkler head you see in the ceiling but use dry chemical instead of water.
