I have a hand gun in my house. I do not have a concealed carry permit so I only keep it at home. Last winter while in Florida the subject came up. One guy carries a pistol in his motor home. He claimed that since a motor home is considered a second home it is legal in all states. I do not plan to pack heat in the motor home, just wondered if anybody knows anything about this?

He is wrong unless he has a concealed carry permit. When his vehicle is in motion, it is the same as an automobile and he can carry a weapon, as long as it is unloaded and stored in his basement compartment, the same as the trunk of his car. Once he is parked, and hooked up to the facilities, it is then considered a house and he can have the weapon at his side, while he is in the coach. As soon as he steps outside, he is illegal. As far as I know, there are only a couple of states now that will allow a non permit carrying individual to drive his RV with a gun at his side and Florida is NOT one of them.

I don't know the answer to your question but I will add many RVers carry a fire arm for protection. In my own travels the only time I would want to re think having one on board is if I was crossing the border into Canada. Otherwise I never even think about it.

In general, it's not against the law to carry a hand gun in a vehicle and not have a concealed weapon permit. But, it can't be loaded and should be in a case, not just lying on the back seat.. ;)Each state is gonna have it's own laws about it, so there is not a single correct answer..I figure if you want to carry your hand gun, just keep it unloaded and 'locked' away in the MH and don't advertise that you have it.. ;)Good luck!Mitch

Thank you for the answers. As mentioned I do not plan to bring my gun, pepper spray should do. So if I understand this right I can keep an unloaded gun in a locked belly bay while traveling and keep it inside when parked?

Sorry for almost having started a civil war. That was not my intention. As I mentioned 3 times already, I have no plans to bring a firearm in my
MH, I was merely wondering what the laws are.

For those of you that have chosen to exercise your freedom in the USA and legally carry a weapon, there are companies that provide an insurance similar to CoachNet to cover 100% of the legal costs(civil and criminal) if you legally have to use your weapon. The cost for this insurance is minimal and it gives you an 800 number to obtain legal consul anywhere in the USA 24/7. Just do an internet search. I do not leave home without it.

It's too bad that every time someone asks a simple gun question the anti-gun crowd seeps out of the woodwork. :(

Best solution: Get a CCP in your state and only travel in states that honor it (reciprocity). This information is readily available from the proper sources.
