Firestone FS560 Plus 16 Ply/Continental HSR

It's going to be time for new tires soon they are 8 years old. I run a 275/70R22.5. I was wondering if anyone has run the Firestone FS560 Plus or the Continental HSR. I can get a good deal on them through our truck maintenace shop at work. Just wonder how they stack up

  • The company work for has about 150 tractor trailer combo's. They run Bridgestone and Continentals. I am sure michelin makes a good tire. I wonder if michelin recomends running their tire 10 years of the dot date. From what I am reading I take it Firestone does not put UV protection on their RV tire. I think all I am saying, is the bang worth the buck when it comes to Michelin over the other two. Like I said I am not an expert.
  • We went from Good Year 670 to Firestone 560 and there wasn't a huge price difference the Goodyears were more but I heard people complaining so I asked the dealer and they had both tire in stock with about the same date 6 & 7 weeks old and he suggested the Firestone tires I not only saved a few bucks but a farmer give me 100 bucks each-I realize they looked brand new but they were 6yrs old and most say after 7 yrs start thinking of replacing them even if they look good-We only got one trip to Fl and but they seem to be as good or better than the old Goodyears-If I remember right they are 14 ply so maybe a little stiffer side wall?-Rich

I put FS 400 315's on the front of my DP and like them a lot. Many of your tour buses run Continental's so I say it's a tossup.

I have heard people talk about the Michelins and how they have the sidewall protection formulated into the rubber. This is to protect from the sun. I don't know that I buy that I really don't think you are going to get much more than 6 or 7 year out of any tire. I am not an expert in tire field so I thought I would get some information from you folks. This tire issue I know has been talked about before and it seem to come down to personal preferance but is it worth a 20% higher cost to buy the Michelins?
I respect your opinion so if F.S. works for you and fits your budget go for it! Michelin and Bridgestone both use a UV Protection in there tires and Michelin uses the softest rubber in the market in there XRV tire because RV's do more sitting then running down the road. Michelin also beefed up there sidewalls in the XZE 2 and the XZE 3 model of tires to protect your vehicle from curbing and side wall scrub! If you don't believe that I'm O.K. with that even though I disagree. I can tell you this I got 10 years of running my Michelin XRV's on my RV and I'm currently on my second set hopefully 10 more years thru using Michelins Quality Care tire program. I also retired from truck driving in 2010 and I ran Michelin XZE on my semi for over 4 million without a blow out. So I really believe in these tires they work for me! Good Luck with your new Firestones and Happy Traveling to you!

  • We have the Firestone FS560 in 275/70R22.5, and have absolutely no complaints. They are made in the US which was a factor when I was looking for new tires. The Continentals may be US made also, I don't know.
  • I have the FS-560 Plus in 12R-22.5, and so far they are excellent. They are all position, so good for both steer and drive axles.
