Myers FL to Annapolis, Plan to leave FT. Myers around 9/8 need to be in MD by 9/12 visiting with friends till 9/16 Then can head to PA in the Hatfield-Lansdale area, Columbia MO or where ever. Would like to be returning to Ft Myers before mid November. Thanks in advance

  • I suggest you take US 301 from Richmond, VA across the Potomac River bridge and avoid driving in the Washington, DC area. It can (almost always) be a real mess and very slow traffic depending on the time of the day. Avoid rush hour.

You can catch US 301 from I-295 in Richmond. If you are afraid of narrow bridges be prepared for the Potomac River bridge. It is narrow, but big trucks & large RVs take it all the time.

I 2nd the suggestion to stop at South of the Border (NC/SC on I-95) and spend the night there in their campground. Easy in/out and reasonable price.

    Have fun.
  • Will you have a toad to sightsee?
1st stop (6 hours) we like Coastal Georgia RV Park in Brunswick GA. We go up US301 to I-10 to I-95. Watch speed trap in Lawtey FL. Although 6 hours is a long day, it's doable if you leave real early in the morning so you arrive by 3pm.
If you want to stop in Savannah, Red Gate Farms RV Park is closest and gets good recommendations. If you just want to stop for the day, you can park at the Visitor Center. You can even stay there overnight. Used to be $7 per night.
If you want to stop at the South of the Border tourist trap, they do have an RV Park good enough for overnight.
Raleigh Oaks RV Resort in Four Oaks, NC 527 US Hwy 701 South has been renovated and is reasonably priced for back in site.
About 2.5 hours south of Annapolis is Pocahontas State Park at Chesterfield VA. If you leave on 9/8 you should have 4 stops if you don't have to be in Annapolis before 9/12. If you have to be there 9/11 you will only have 3 stops and longer days driving. We like to keep the driving to 250 miles per day and stop early.
Cherry Hill RV park in College Park MD is great for visiting DC. Enjoy your trip!! Let us know how it goes.
  • Depends on which way you want to come up. I 95 is boring as any Interstate. I think there are 3 curves between Cape Coral and Rocky Mount NC. You can get off it and travel up the coast. If you give yourself 3 days that's about 325 miles a day which doesn't give you much time to tour. Stop in Savannah GA. It's very nice. It's 350 to Rocky Mount NC from there and is just another boring little city along I 95,On the way stop at South of the Border. on the NC-SC line, The USAs biggest tourist trap.
