Flat Tow Vehicle Equipment Recommendations

Good evening,

Well, I had it in my mind we would just get a tow dolly and use that to tow my wife's FWD vehicle behind our 2016 Allegro when it arrives. After much discussion with the wife and my back, we have traded it for a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk 4X4. So with that, we will be able to flat tow and not use a dolly. What I would like are recommendations for tow bars, brake control, etc. I have read the dinghy towing guide from Motorhome Mag, but would like real world user recommendations as all the ads make them sound like they are the best possible solution.

Thanks in advance.

  • John, there's a lot of good towing equipment out on the market. I found a excellent welder a long time ago and he recommended Roadmaster Towing system too me. I still go to that welder when I buy a new tow car and my Roadmaster Towing System is now 16 years old. Good Luck
  • We went with the Blue Ox system and the SMI AirForce 1 braking system that works off of the air brakes from your coach. Quick and easy to hook up.
  • You will get a ton of opinions on this matter. The best advise I can give is to shop around and make your choice. There are several different brands out there. Myself I use a Blue ox tow bar and the base plate for the car came from Night shift auto where I purchased the ready brake. It is a mechanical surge brake that is simple and inexpensive, and works very well. Blue ox is a great company that stands behind their product. I am sure the others do as well butI can't speak for that.
