- bullydogs1ExplorerLook in owner's manual...If it is a system that has a neutral setting on the transfer box, it should be...but the owner's manual will tell you for sure and if you don't have that it is definitely somewhere on line.
- Mandalay_ParrExplorerYour owners manual is your bible.
- rich82333Explorerit does not have neutral setting so dealer is telling me I have to take off front shaft

and you don't believe your dealer because?
and as stated, read the owner's manual.
bumpy - msmith1199Explorer III was just looking at a Chev Colorado 4x4 and the neutral setting on the transfer case was not obvious. You had to push in the knob and turn it further and I don't think it was even marked. A light came on when you got to the right spot.
- msmith1199Explorer III tried to cut and paste from the owners manual and it won't post from some reason when I do that. According to info I found GM puts either a manual or an electronic transfer case in their new trucks. The manual will have a lever similar to a parking brake lever on the floor and the electronic is a knob left of the steering wheel. Both of them have a Neutral positions. Per the 2015 owners manual, as long as you have one of those two types of transfer cases, you can flat tow it if you follow all their directions.
- rockhillmanorExplorerDo NOT believe anything a dealer and/or salesman tells you about towing 4-down.
I was looking for a toad and I can't tell you how many salesman told me 'ya you can tow this one four down'...when it could NOT be towed four down. :R I.E. That was before I found the blue/ox site where you can first look up the makes and models I was interested in.
Each time I reached in for the owners manual and shoved it in their face and walked off the lot. The last time I went to the GM and expressed my opinion of salesman that lie to get the sale.
OWNERS MANUAL
Listed under Recreation Towing. It will tell you right there whether you need a dolly or if it can be towed four down. - msmith1199Explorer II

I had a salesman at a Toyota dealer tell me that. I pointed out that the owners manual specifically said do not do it. He claimed they just put that in there for liability reasons and you could do it. So I said great, I'll buy the truck. But I want an addendum to the contract that says I can tow it four down and if it does any damage based on towing it that way, that the dealer would be responsible for fixing it. I didn't buy the truck. - RLS7201Explorer II
- Dutch_12078Explorer IIAccording to Remco a 2015 Sierra 1500 4WD with a 6L80 transmission and a two-speed transfer case can be 4-down towed as is, subject to the conditions listed in the owner's manual. Remco indicates there are no speed or distance limits, but for extended time tows the engine should be started periodically to keep the battery charged. The Sierra 2500 and 3500 4WD models with a 6L90 transmission are also towable with the same conditions.
