Fleetwood 2008 Discovery 40X Opinions Please

Hello Campers,

We are looking at a 2008 Discovery 40X with 35,000 miles. They are asking $109,500. Going to trade our 2006 40' 5th wheel. We are ready to go back to a motorhome.

Would love any opinions (good and bad) about the Discovery line; especially if you own this particular unit or close to it.
  • The first thing I would definitely recommend is joining the Discovery Owners Association. They are a very large owner group with tons of information. After that have the motor checked for exhaust leaks especially the exhaust gasket which seems to be a common issue as well as radiator failure (leaks where the tubes connect to the side inlet tanks on the bottom corners). Short of that they are pretty good coaches. They are usually neck and neck in total numbers with the Phaeton as being the number 1 produced mh. Both are great coaches, and if the floorplan works, go for it. I can personally tell you that Fleetwood is a great company to deal with. The parts and tech support personnel are superb. Make sure you get somebody knowledgeable and trustworthy to give it a complete independent inspection. Good luck with your choice.

    Disclaimer: I own a 2010 Discovery
  • My wife and I really like the X floor plan though we don't own one. It seems to have lots of kitchen counter space and we love the mid living room effect. Besides what has already been mentioned about checking things out I have been hesitant about the engines horsepower and torque. I only say that because I drag race and my car and trailer weigh 7200lb. and I don't know if that that coaches pulling power would be any greater than my current mh. If I buy another mh I want more pulling power than I currently have.

Monaco made a simalar floor plan in several coaches in their line up but the high hp/tq models would be more money than what you are looking at.

Good luck and remember opinions are only worth the price you pay for them.

  • Had a 2008 40x. Electric powergear jacks failed on a regular basis. Loved the floor plan, but after three years of "rv" standing for ruined vacation we traded up to a 2011 revolution.
  • We have the 2012. We are happy so far. We've spent about 240 days in it so far. The water heater was jammed in too fast from factory and pinched a hose that gave us trouble, but Fleetwood covered the cost even though we are the second owner. Customer service has been great. We love the layout everyday.
  • Yes I have a 2008 fleetwood discovery 40x.  what ever you want to know call me.  I might sell mine.  David thompson 904 563 7822
