Floor Covering

After finding a leak during a camping trip to Myrtle Beach during the South Carolina flooding last October, we pulled the carpet back in the driver's and passenger's footwell and after a tank of propane running the furnace for 2 weeks straight at 80 degrees and a fan blowing constantly, we got everything dried out pretty well.

Now, we have stained carpet that smells.....and must be replaced. We'd like to go with some sort of hard surface/laminate covering, but I run pretty much at weight limit already without the extra weight of new laminate flooring. Any suggestions on what is fairly easy to install AND would not add significant weight to the coach?

  • I'm replacing the carpet in my rig this year. I have talked to a lot of folks and the vinyl planks is the favorite. The waterproof is the biggest reason. It's easy to install, you have a ton of choices, and it looks good.

    For me, my requirements are:
    strong to handle the dogs' feet;
    Waterproof;
    Warm look (no cold stone look);
    Easy to clean;
    Easy to install (a friend is doing it for me).

    So far, the vinyl plank is meeting all those requirements.

    My recommendation is to send an e-mail or message to Ernie Ekberg, who is a very experienced flooring installer with many years of experience. He will advise you on what to use and why if your wanting to do your own install or have someone in your area. Ideally, it would be great if he were to do the job but is usually booked 6-12 ahead.

  • We replaced our carpet with Allure from Home Depot last summer and have been very happy with it. Make sure you float it or it will be a disaster.:)
  • Vinyl Plank or tile.
    Hereis more information. But two of the most important benefits: lighter and waterproof...
