- HikerdogsExplorerThe only difference between the Dexron III and the fluid HWH sells is the color. Dexron has a red dye added to make leaks more visible. The HWH fluid is clear. It was originally used for systems that had hydraulic control valves inside the motorhome. If they leaked there wouldn't be red stains all over the carpet. Our 2001 Winnebago came with Dexron III from the factory.

HWH actually makes there own fluid. If you have none you can use transmission fluid. Its all hydraulic fluid.
HWH does NOT really make their own fluid. ALL Jack systems use transmission fluid. HWH fluid IS Transmission fluid without the RED dye. They purchase it without the Dye. The reason is, in slide room application, if there is a leak, better to have clear/gold fluid inside than a red dye. Doug- FishinghatExplorer II

The information was from HWH manual under maintenance.
Bud is right. Use MD3, or GM automatic transmission fluid, but not Ford or Dodge. I understand MD4 is compatible, but I haven't found any actual reference info or anything from HWH verifying that. I've found MD3 at Wal-Mart. - Use Universal multipurpose or Dextron automatic transmission fluid. Do not use brake fluid or hydraulic jack fluid.
