My perception is that before the internet forums, groups like that had significant value, however with today's social media, I do not see the need. One can find an affinity group online and learn about everything they need to know from online sources. Truthfully, the online sources are much better for interaction, as it has a much broader base. Younger people are not into the commitment to make an organization like that work. We will get together when we want, or when its convenient. We are much more spontaneous to plan mega rallies.
Dave......I think you're exactly right and at the same time have identified what is wrong with RVing. I'm on my computer every evening, primarily reading the forums. I'm not a big reader normally and I think it's a good way to keep my mind stimulated and prevent Alzheimers. But....when I go camping, I only use the computer to find campgrounds or a place to see. Many others are locking themselves in their RV's with their computers and TV's and never come outside and SOCIALIZE with other humans/campers. They do come out briefly to walk their dogs, but that's about it. I had dogs for 50 years and computers since they first came out, but they're not a substitute for human contact with others.
So....social media and the computer are killing the organizations like FMCA. The baby boomers are still their, but they're dwindling.
Lastly.....you know what's really nice about an FMCA Rally.....They stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance before the evening activity. It puts a lump in your throat to still see people who give a heck!
