FMCA to allow Towables Owners to join

Got an email, a little bit ago.
Towables Owners can now join.
They won't be accepting applications until the paperwork is finished.
I'm ambivalent about it. It will change the whole character of the organization, of course.
Rallies will be different and a lot more participants.
I started to post in General RVing but I'm sure word will get there.
  • It was never was, and is not now, a mater of elitism. FMCA was built, run and dedicated to owners of RV's with engines only. It's no more elitist than having a Tiffin club club or a Keystone club.
Family MOTOR COACH Assn, now to be know as FMCA but with no real meaning, turns it from an organization dedicated to the Motor Home owner to just another Good Sam club. The average age of a FMCA member is 71 years and this age is killing the budget for their one actual benefit (if you are old enough) which is the FMC Assist. The goal of what will be a completely revamped business will be to draw in younger members to help pay for this benefit for older members. I can't see where the benefits to the younger members will come from since they likely already have "actual" benefits from the Good Sam group and their excellent camping discounts and Camping World savings along with a magazine that runs the gamut of the RVing lifestyle.

I don't get it, the FMCA is allowing towables to join and that's a problem?

The way I see it, is the more the merrier! Well, I have never been to a FMCA event but would not have a problem if towables were allowed.

We all share the same love of camping. The beautiful sunset looks exactly the same from a Prevost to a tent.

Human nature. Elitism. Always gonna have some of it......how dare they allow the lowly travel trailer among our motor coaches? What will be next? Pop ups? Oh the humanity.

It's not unlike the national rally sponsored by the Forest River owners group. It only can accept 800 attendees out of the 50000 + members of that organization due to the size of the facility in Goshen where it's held. When they announced they would no longer be parking people in groups by brand/type of RV as it put a huge workload on the volunteers doing the parking duty, a gaggle of disgruntled Berkshire class A folks rebelled and boycotted. No way in hell were they gonna park their precious Berkshire, which is a cheap class A comparitivly in the class A world but at the top of the Forest River garbage pile, among the common folk. They took their ball and went home lol. Actually they started their own owners group, Facebook page, and had their own rally elsewhere. Good for them and probably good for someone who wanted to attend that Forest River rally but could not get a spot due to the demand. It was funny to read at the time. I could not figure out if it was adults with RVs or a bunch of junior high school girls.

The only thing I know about FMCA is what I read but I imagine someone with some brains came to the conclusion something needed done to drum up membership or some other reason based on economics. Out of the folks who were against it, I would bet a good percentage also would of been against any increase of any dues or membership fees to keep the organization solvent also.

  • "How can that be? The results won't be tallied until the 7th of December and released on the 8th.

    Care to share the informant?

    Came from this person:

    FMCA National President
Results are in for the recent membership vote. Members have voted to welcome owners of self-contained RVs:
    Total votes: 9,801
    In favor: 6,820
    Opposed: 2,981
Per FMCA's governing documents, the paperwork is being filed to make the vote official. Until the paperwork is finalized, we cannot accept membership applications from owners of self-contained RVs.
So feel free to tell the news to your friends who own travel trailers and fifth wheels, but please let them know we are working on the details! We will tell you as soon as we are ready.
In the meantime, we have gathered a list of questions you may have:

    Read FAQs
I want to reassure everyone, regardless of how you voted, that the things you know and love about FMCA aren’t going to change! This is a chance for our RVing family to grow.

Such a honor to be allowed now. No thanks. :)

Yeah, seems pointless and unbeneficial to me.
  • I got the same email. It appears that FMCA is turning into a Good Sam clone.
