At this point, anything that can be considered a "recreation vehicle" can join. If you have a boat, bicycle, motorcycle, seadoo, etc, you are eligible for membership. There is nothing and I mean NOTHINGwithin the newly approved documents that defines what a "recreation vehicle" is. The wording that is in the magazine about self contained, sleeping facilities, etc do not appear anywhere in the the documents. It is only some smoke screen until July when the wording can be put into the bylaws. The powers to be were in such a hurry to cram this down our throats, they forgot a very important step.The governing board has the authority to change the bylaws and that is what will happen. Until July, go ahead and join with your boat. If FMCA doesn't let you join, there is a lawsuit in the wings waiting.

Now, here is a little known fact:
The now past president was holding an area rally when a towable showed up. He went over and tild him he was not welcome and to leave. The treasurer refunded the rally fee. This is the same person that who had the brilliant idea to bring in "recreation vehicles"

OK, seeing how you have the document in hand. Please post the wording so all can see it. Other wise what you post is just rhetoric.
Also the FMCA President does not hold an area rally. That is organised by the area.

On another forum I just read that the poster purchased the tires with the FMCA discount and he specifically said it was $150 discount for the total bill..... not for each tire. $150 discount can be had by many places. We bought our Michilins in Oregon with no sales tax at a discount.

To me, a self contained motorized unit is a MH. That includes TC's, yet FMCA poo hoos units of that type because they could be separated used as separate units, Truck or Camper.

My park has been an FMCA Park since we bought it in 2001. The only offer we have is the standard 10% off, very rarely asked for. Nearly every guest already has a Good Sam, Senior , or military qualification, so FMCA is rarely a discount issue. One only needs to read the monthly magazine to see it is one big ad for the mfgrs of new models with some rally info and help lines thrown in.
Its too little, too late. Towables are outpacing sales of self powered units by leaps and bounds as the younger generations come in with their suvs and diesel pickups.

You hit the nail squarely on the head. Sales of All types of SUV's especially heavy ones have increased due in part to the manufacturers ability to get decent fuel economy from them, and pickups, especially diesel pickups has increased over the years. Basically SUV's and pickups are a larger part of the family transportation business than ever before, and people figure, "I have a tow vehicle, why buy another motor and chassis to maintain" so they buy a much more affordable travel trailer. Of course we have raised a generation or two of mechanical klutzs, so the RV dealers and repair shops have increased in size to compensate........ but if like the business I am in (airline maintenance) they cannot find mechanically inclined people to hire as techs.

Found this while nosing around the net after reading through this thread again.

An older blog but interesting to say the least as it was written before what is discussed in this thread. Especially the comments at the end. Seems to be a level headed guy, but it's the net.
