Food Storage

This is probably not practical for those that use their class c with more than two people. But, for those singles or couples that do long term travel/use....it may be something to consider.

The photos show the base and cradle that I fabricated to secure the freezer to the floor. The freezer is bolted to the cradle, the plate welded to the cradle assembly is bolted to rv floor....using the same bolts that secured the chair. The cradle/base and modifications to the freezer bottom was a bit of a challenge....but, I believe that it is a strong, secure system.

We removed our little “barrel backed” chair from behind the passenger seat, and replaced it with a small chest freezer. It could provide lots of storage for meals other than the canned goods or the packaged meals with lots of preservatives!

We’re in the process of adding additional batteries (total of 4), 400 watts of solar (panels are angle adjustable) a charge controller, and inverter. memtb

    I’m hoping that when/if I even finish the solar panel and inverter install.....we could do an extended boondocking trip. If nothing else, we can bring back lots of seafood from Louisiana or next trip down there. memtb

    Thanks guys! After we put (several years ago) a 5+ cu. ft. freezer in our 5th wheel, it worked (for us) so well....we had to do it on a bit smaller scale in the class c. The big mistake that I made with the I install, was “NOT” realizing that the power cord and vent were on the side and not the back. :S That looks a bit tacky! If I turned it, with the way that I fabricated the base, it would extend too far into the isle. :M I may try to remanufacture it at a later date.....and get it right! :h. memtb

    Your install looks nice.
    I was looking into buying one of the Dometic model of 12v fridge/freezer combos.
    I would use it to pre-pack for a trip so I don't have to move and level my rv to op the fridge for a day prior to departing.
    Once I was on the road for 8 hours or so with the absorption fridge running , I would transfer the food into the rv fridge and then use the 12v compressor fridge for additional food as a fridge or a freezer. They are temp controlled and can be used either way as freezer or not.

    They offer many different sizes. Like the Dometic CF-40 etc.
