Ford 5 speed Tranny fluid. Mercon SP or Mercon VL ?

Hi all. My old Class'A' 2006 On the ford F53 chassis, V10, 362 HP with the 5 speed Tranny called for 'Mercon SP' Trans Fluid. My new Class'A' 2015 Thor Vegas on the Ford E-350 chassis, V10, 305 HP also with a 5 speed Tranny calls for Mercon LV. I still have some of the Mercon SP from the old RV. Can I use SP in my new one even tho it calls for LV ?

  • You can probably mix the different fluids but I would stick with what's in the transmission.

It's your money, just how much does a new 5speed transmission cost just because you have some left over non speck fluid. I would run what Ford calls for.

  • Newer one should be LV. Older could be LV or Mercon, but I think Ford preferred LV. Just google Mercon SP VS LV, you will find more than enough confusing posts. I have been using LV in my 2006 since I owned it. There is a Ford TSB recommending it.
  • The way I read it NO. LV is a new improved fluid.
